While Kaunas, the 2nd largest city in Lithuania, is European Capital of Culture 2022, Vilnius starts preparing for its 700th anniversary in 2023. The world learned about Vilnius for the first time in 1323 from the letters written by Gediminas, the Duke of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. We hope that the 700th anniversary will be yet another opportunity to spread the message of Vilnius to the world. The anniversary is a perfect opportunity to look back at the city’s rich past, cultural heritage and historical traditions and examine the beauty of a modern city that the Lithuanian capital is today. Unconventional initiatives, interactive events and unique solutions will be waiting for you in various spaces across Vilnius. Finland, which just took the gold in Ice-Hockey at the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, is hosting the world championship in Ice-Hockey in 2022. The matches will be played at the Nokia Arena in Tampere and at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki. Sixteen teams from Europe, North America and Central Asia will be competing for the title in the usual format. The hotels in both cities are well booked for the period, and we recommend leisure travelers to avoid staying in Tampere and Helsinki during the championship. Via Hansa & Borealis has space at the hotels in both cities for sponsors, journalists and supporters. Please contact us for more information: helsinki@viahansaborealis.com
